Getting Started Guide with DeskFinder
To get started with DeskFinder, please follow the steps in order:
STEP 1. Google Desktop Search
Do you have the Google Desktop on your computer? If yes, please go to STEP 2.
If you don’t have Google Desktop yet, please install it on your computer. You can download it free of charge from the official Google website: http://desktop.google.com/. This useful application will help you find emails, chats, web history, Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, PDF files, text and many other files on your computer.
After the program is installed, you will see the Google Desktop icon in system tray.
Note: After installation of Google Desktop, it will start indexing files on your computer. It may take some hours. Indexing will be done only once. All further information will be indexed automatically and will not affect your usual work. |
STEP 2. Installation
You can download DeskFinder for BlackBerry from our site:

Note: To install DeskFinder on your computer you need administrator privileges. |
DeskFinder for BlackBerry consists of the following two parts:
- DeskFinder Desktop Service to be installed on desktop computer;
- DeskFinder mobile application to be installed on BlackBerry.
The most effective way to install DeskFinder is with simultaneous installation on your computer and on your BlackBerry. To do this, perform these five steps:
1. Connect your BlackBerry to your computer via cradle.2. Download Full Installation pack to your computer: http://www.shapeservices.com/freedownload/BB/DeskFinderForBB_V.exe
3. Run the .exe file.
Note: If you have antivirus or firewall software on your computer, there can arise some problems with blocking ports. Don’t worry; continue installation process, allowing to use the ports, that are asked by antivirus or firewall software. |
4. Google Gadget Installation window will appear. Confirm that you want to continue installation by pressing the ‘Yes“ button.
5. Then you will see the process of downloading files on your BlackBerry.

When the installation of DeskFinder for BlackBerry is successfully finished you will see DeskFinder options window on your computer and the DeskFinder icon will appear in Applications on your BlackBerry.
STEP 3. Start
Note: If you have installed DeskFinder on your BlackBerry over-the-air, then connect your BlackBerry to your computer via cradle and choose ‘Generate new DeskFinder Service ID’ in DeskFinder options. |
After the first launch of DeskFinder for BlackBerry you will be asked to insert the registration key.
If you have already purchased DeskFinder, you should have received your registration key. Type in the registration key and press the “Register“ button.
If you want to use DeskFinder in trial mode, press the “Trial“ button. Then select “Connect“.
After connection is established the search line will appear on your BlackBerry screen.
Note: You can use full-functional trial during 7 days or download a full-functional commercial version with unlimited access. |
STEP 4. Search
You can use simple or advanced search. If you definitely know the type of sources you want to find, choose ‘Advanced search’. There you can select searching by emails, files, web, chats or other.
If you don’t know the type of sources you are looking for, choose ‘Simple search’. Searching will be done through all sources on your computer.
